The “Automatic” Solution for EV Conversions

Posted 12-15-2010 at 02:47 PM by FB Performance Trans

Some time ago we were approached by a City Municipality that was in the process of doing a fleet conversion of their gas vehicles to electric. Their bottom line was to achieve vehicle performance and functionality that replicated that of the gas vehicle while of course providing long term energy cost savings. Their approach was to follow the lead of so many others by setting up the driveline with a “stick” type transmission.

mostly finished-90%

Posted 11-28-2010 at 11:22 PM by lou-ace

Well, Well, Well. After about two years, and many excuses, I think I might have finally finished the project. Over the holidays (11-2010) I painstakingly placed and wired the 20 Crown battery # GC 225’s in the truck. These are 68 lb lead acid batteries @ $109 each (I lucked out with no core charge and free delivery), you do the math.
I placed 4 in the front compartment and the other 16 in the bed. The technical problems that I encountered were in figuring out how to mount the tie downs for...

Bluewater Bay's Electric Ford Ranger

Posted 04-09-2009 at 12:01 AM by rbgrn

Our member, tj4fa, was written up in the Beacon for his 1991 Ford Ranger conversion. The article is very good but appears to be print-only so this article will attach scans of it.

Excerpt from the article:
"Bluewater Bay resident Terry Forfa has built himself a lean, green electric machine. Last year, he transformed a 1991 Ford Ranger pickup truck into an all-electric plug-in vehicle that gets between 70 and 80 miles per "gallon" of energy and has a range of...

Featured EV Video: Craig Dusing's Chevy S-10

This weekend we filmed some footage of Craig's S10 EV. I thought it was a very nice conversion although he wants to make it even cleaner still. The truck had plenty of pep and good range. If you have questions about this conversion, this is the place to ask.

He used 16 8v Trojan golf cart batteries to make a 144v system. His Zivan charger sits between the seats in the cab and he said he normally charges it by just running an extension cord up to the truck....
