Featured EV Video: Craig Dusing's Chevy S-10
Posted 02-03-2009 at 02:45 PM by rbgrn
This weekend we filmed some footage of Craig's S10 EV. I thought it was a very nice conversion although he wants to make it even cleaner still. The truck had plenty of pep and good range. If you have questions about this conversion, this is the place to ask.
He used 16 8v Trojan golf cart batteries to make a 144v system. His Zivan charger sits between the seats in the cab and he said he normally charges it by just running an extension cord up to the truck. He has an Advanced DC 9" Motor and a Curtis controller. The bed is hinged to expose access to the batteries and the batteries themselves are in a custom molded frame. The rear suspension has been upgraded to hold the weight of the batteries.

This is an excellent interview and I agree that more are needed. Now to do one where someone with a smaller vehicle has converted their car and has just as good of a story to tell. I took my son and his wife for a drive in my EV Ghia the other day and when we got back the only thing he could say was I want to build one. They were both very impressed with the performance and my Ghia is only a 72 volt system. I plan to upgrade to 144 volts. Can't wait. If the performance is good now just imagine when it gets 144 volts and more amps. : )

Very nice video!! It's a great idea to do a series of these; like Pete said, perhaps with a variety of types of base cars. For novice converters like myself, real world experiences offer the best protection against wasting time, energy, and money. You-tube videos are a great resource. Keep up the good work!!

Just wanted to say thanks for driving out to Sterling to shoot the video. I know it was more than a little jaunt. The only thing more fun than driving my S-10 is telling about it.

Carroll_1, nice video. It took me a while to find a computer that could play the video for me. My slow dial-up sure won't.
People, this truck is just as nice to ride in, as it shows in the video!
He is a little hesitant to tinker with his batteries, like I do, but he has a lot more at stake than just 6 batteries.
Great job...Posted 10-15-2008 at 10:58 PM by Coley
