Cutting trunk
Hi Rmacey,
who did you get the kit from? I'm just starting out investigating my conversion, and I want to know who is good to get a kit from.

Free at last
Nice job! Congratulations on finally getting rid of the ice! Had some similar problems in my car, Swedish climate has not been nice to my volvo 440 for 19 years... Had to cut off at least 3 bolts with a saw, at very uncomfortable angles. Also managed to destroy some tools as I used 1 meter long lever for more torque...Posted 01-25-2010 at 07:59 AM by jockepocke

no, use a drill bit that is the same size as the head, drill the head off leaving the stud (rest of the bolt) in the trans.
you can get bolt remover like this
http://local.content.compendiumblog....Bolt%20Out.JPG
the thing is, you can't get the bolt remover on the head because of the CV, so cut it off and take the axle off then remove the stud.
if you cant get it out, then cut it off flush and just make sure the other 7 bolts are good and solid when you put the axle back in. I've raced with an axle that only had 3 of them, it'll be fine.
I've got lots of extras if you need any, just let me know.Posted 12-15-2009 at 09:24 AM by duct-tape

I'm talking about the small (8mm) bolts that go through the CV at the transmission. I may need replacements. I'm new at this. You mention drilling the head off. Do you mean cut the head off and then drill the remainder out?Quote:have you gotten this fixed yet? you're talking about the small bolts that go through the CV at the transmission right? not the big one at the end of the axle at the steering knuckle.
the easiest way to remove it is drill the head off, I've got 30 or so axle bolts to spare if you need some.
If you're talking about the big axle bolt, the best is to soak it daily for 3 or 4 days with PB blaster, and then use an impact gun.Posted 12-13-2009 at 01:53 PM by rmacey

I think your big problem is here, not with that bolt.Quote:Wife is not happy as lack of progress means a long cold winter without being able to park in the garage.

cut the little bugger. just cut the axle, and replace it later. sounds like its easier. thats my 2cents.Posted 12-10-2009 at 08:34 PM by alexcrouse

Lift-off (out) postponed
send me a message if you need any move rabbit info. I've owned about 20 of themPosted 11-13-2009 at 12:13 PM by duct-tape

So close, yet so far
I've taken about 15 rabbit motors out, they come out easiest from the bottom, and with the trans too.
the trick is to put something under the motor like a furniture dolly and the lower the motor down to it.
I can lift the front up by myself but I'm a big guy. get 3 people to help you, one on each front fender and one in front and lift while the 4th pulls the motor out. easy!Posted 11-13-2009 at 12:10 PM by duct-tape

We used to use come-alongs from the rafters to raise the front end of the car enough to slide the engine out. Did it that way for a few Civics and CRX.Posted 11-09-2009 at 02:00 AM by aeromech

I am trying to take the tranny and engine out together. I'd drop it but I don't think I can raise the car high enough (well I'd need a new jack and jack stands).Posted 10-11-2009 at 06:17 PM by rmacey

yeah. what adam said. you can do it on the ground but its hard, i'd go from the bottom though for sure. or take the trans out with it, thats pretty easy too. just put a couple bolts back in to hold it all together, then pull it out the top and it should come.Posted 10-09-2009 at 08:39 PM by mikesarge

This might be a little too late, but it looks like that engine is easier removed from the bottom. Put some blocks under the engine and jack the car up off the engine. Its usually done with a lift, so it might be difficult with just a jack.

I'll give that a try. (but it's tough to move the engine forward or back until it clears the engine mounts.).Posted 10-05-2009 at 05:14 AM by rmacey

looks like if u can locate your chains closer to the firewall, you might be able to get it to lean forward. maybe even just prying the top forward with a 2x4 will do it. They got it in, it will come out. Really just looks like its leaning too far back.Posted 10-04-2009 at 05:04 PM by alexcrouse
