Today the adventure officially begins. Julia, my wife, purchased a car for our conversion.

Welcome to my first post regarding the conversion of an ICE (internal combustion engine) car to an EV (electric vehicle). The background is this. I have a 12 year old son Noah who likes science. Is an AC motor in your future?

All major car makers use AC propulsion systems for a reason.
That reason is simplicity, robustness and excellent, programmable
operating parameters.

For the past year, there has been a group of people studying
AC propulsion systems. They all eventually noticed the huge
gap in the AC motor offerings from the many motor manufacturers.

The present AC50 and soon to be AC75 systems are at the top of
the "lower" cost systems...

How Will Toshiba's SCiB Battery Technology Impact EVs?

Toshiba announced Monday in this press release the commercial release of the SCiB (Super Charge Ion Battery). The battery's selling points are that it can recharge to 90% capacity in less than five minutes, it's safe and it has a 10-year lifespan. It can also operate down to -30 celcius (-22F). This means that it would apply well to an Electric Vehicle type application, but is a five minute charge feasible for an EV?

The “Automatic” Solution for EV Conversions

Some time ago we were approached by a City Municipality that was in the process of doing a fleet conversion of their gas vehicles to electric. Their bottom line was to achieve vehicle performance and functionality that replicated that of the gas vehicle while of course providing long term energy cost savings. Their approach was to follow the lead of so many others by setting up the driveline with a “stick” type transmission.
