    Hi Major,
You have been a huge help in the past advising me about my series wound DC motor.
I can only get my hands on 12v lead acid batteries in the present market. Now I am trying to decide the size of the battery (i.e. the ampere-hour rating). I do not have any acceleration, speed or range requirements. I just want the car to be able to move. (it is being built as part of a green campaign/promotion). Do you think at a 72V arrangement, 70Ah flooded lead-acid battery will do the job?
    Thanks

There was never any mention of the manufacturer or any part/model number or any such markings on the machine. End of story.

Used batteries or cells are usually a crap shoot. I couldn't say what they're worth. It depends on brand, source, age, condition, etc. I suggest you post a classified at your numbers OBO (or best offer). Good luck.

I removed 24 battery packs from a boat 17 seem good 7 dead.
I would like to sell them and was hoping you could let me know of a fair asking price as I know you have more knowledge than most of us.
The battery's are lifepo4 pouches I have 340 of them seemingly good. They are built into 6volt battery cases. 10P2S I think is how I explain that. So 10 of the 20amp hr pouches parallel and then 10 more parallel and connected together to make 6volts.I know almost nothing except the ones that failed were all closest to the engine. Possible heat damage. The boat owner went back to Trojans as he said this was to hard and complicated and made his boat lean to the other side because the weight loss???
Ill try to do more load testing but at 6v 200amp hrs per battery I haven't found a good way. I was thinking 20 per pouch as I see them around 40 new. That would be $6800 that Is that too high or too low I hate to post them and then get flamed by 1/2 the people on here.
    Thank you
    Philip

    Hi Letro,

I don't follow your question. Engines are typically rated well above the generators they drive. And the generators are rated higher than the motors they drive. Twice? Depends on the application. You don't get current multiplication without the controller, so if you need high current for accels and hills, then the generator must be rated for that hence higher power.

    Hi Major,

Just been reading a few posts and came across the following extract from you a few years :

[.... So we threw the Curtis out and connected the motor to the welder output. Used the potbox to control the generator field and microswitch/latching circuit for 2 engine speeds. It was completely controllable and the generator took care of current limiting. No motor controller, no batteries

Now this was a special case. And it was a 20 hp engine driving a 10 KVA generator for a 3 hp electric motor. So if it required similar sizing for an EV car, you'd need a 500 hp engine and 250 KVA generator.......Not practical ]

If I were to look at doing a similar setup, does it seem to be that the general rule of thumb is the generator size needs to be roughly twice that of the motor?

    Thanks.

Understand. Could you please let me know what area/city you're in and I'll see if pickup can be organised.

Buyer is responsible to arrange shipping of batteries from me. I will deliver the modules to a carrier in my area or be available for them to pick up. I have been thru attempts to ship these too many times with zero results, so it is entirely on the buyer to arrange and pay for shipping. Thanks, major

    Hi Major,

Not sure if you still have the Enerdel 2P12S modules for sale, as I've seen them on a recent post. If yes and you would consider shipping to Australia I would be interested in 1-4 modules depending on price with shipping. I would be happy with sea mail if it would save substantial amount. Cheers
