What would be wrong with pulling the 12v needs from one of the batteries in my pack of batteries? As long as I keep moving the load to a different battery in the pack from time to time wouldn't that keep things balanced? I just don't want to lug along a semi useful battery when I rarely use it and have to use another charger or convertor to maintain it.
It'd be pretty hard to maintain a balanced pack that way. Plus you probably want to maintain electrical isolation between your traction pack and your 12V system.
Thank you gentlemen for the good n clear answers. Didn't think about the pack isolation or the law. EVs aren't regulated in NS but I want to build it right.
