Cool Etek at 72 Volts

Hi all,
I have been riding my motorcycle for about two and a half years now and I think it's time to buy some new batteries. This is my setup:

Bike: Old 1978 Endro frame
Motor: A real Etek "not the mars type"
Controller: Altrax 48V, 400amp
Batteries: 8 B&B 12V 20ah. Wired into a 48V,40ah pack

I haven't noticed a drop in range, because I don't push my batteries, but I have noticed a drop in top speed from 42.6mph to 36.3mph.

In any case, its time for new batteries. I'm thinking about upgrading my system to 72V and putting it all on a "newer" 1984 KX 125 frame that I have. The one thing that is holding me back is running my Etek at 72v.

My Etek has run great at 48v for many year, and I know that it can be run at 72v, but has anyone here done that for a long time?
