Thanks Roger,I ordered the DC-DC you recommended: Meanwell SD-500H-12 for $124 from www.powergatellc.com 500W, 72-144V in adj to 13.8V out.Mine is intermittent, it died this morning coming to work (about an hour drive), right out of the garage - cold. last night back from Yoga it worked fine, headlights on, wipers, kept cycling the Aoogah horn to try I glitch the output but it kept working. Then this morning it wasn't feeling well, latched off after 10 seconds of operation. Maybe it'll feel better at lunch when I do my parts run. Fortunately I've got a U1-1 35ah tractor battery and it's trickle charged to 14V while the EV is plugged in.Best Regards,Markwww.REEVA.info Date: Tue, 25 Sep 2012 17:33:22 +0000

Mark, as I recall, the datasheet for the HRP-600 states that the fan comes on based on the temperature switch that monitors the output inductor temp (TSW2), not the one (TSW1) that monitors the input transistor temp. If you are running at low input voltage, you could be overheating the input transistor because it is handling higher current than usual, yet the output load isn't high enough to kick the fan on to cool the input stage.

Maybe hotwire the fan so it runs whenever the DC/DC is on, or at low speed when the DC/DC is on and full speed when the conditions that would normally turn it on occur? Unless you run the DC/DC even when the key is off it does seem unlikely that overheating would cause a shutdown first thing out of the garage, but on the other hand, it seems the DC/DC would restart immediately after an over-voltage event while it would take some time to cool before restarting after an over-temp event, and this matches with your symptoms.

Cheers,

Roger.

Sorry to hear that yours is still being difficult, however, I can't take credit for the recommendation. It was someone else (perhaps Cor?) who recommended the Meanwell you are referring to.

Good luck!

Roger.
