This ruling is more than stupid, its some ones brother-in-law that wants to be a political wanna-be, a vac pump for brakes,?? what if the vehicle came with out power brakes??? some still do,older years. The honda Insites motor cables run in a plastic conduit holder under the body, NOT STEEL.I have seen hybrids with orange wires on + and - both . Who told them what colour. why not PINK, it stands out . Kansas has NO vehicle inspections of any kind , so its s non starter here for EVs, build it drive it, no one cares if it even has both working head lights .
When I was in Florida i too had to get an inspection of my EV, the state emission operator said i had to have a tail pipe to put the gas analyser into . I knew this was coming so I took a vise grip and a 1 foot tail pipe and clamped it on the rear bumper, he said that was good,,,,and tested my EV with a -0- emission. cert ...how dumb can that be .. when it comes to politicians now days a cat licking its ass has more sense than they do

You need to read the legislation itself, or at least all of the messages in this thread.

Someone helpfully clarified that the legislation doesn't state that a vacuum pump or metal conduit is required; this was merely someone's interpretation/paraphrasing of the wording.

The reason the legislation states high voltage wiring needs to be orange is precisely because OEM hybrids (and now EVs) standardized upon orange for high-voltage wiring and that is what first responders have been trained to recognise.

Pink happens to be the standard colour for wiring associated with air bags, so that would be a particularly poor choice for high voltage wiring ;^>
