Hmmm. If this actually comes out, and is available to non-commercial
buyers, it could be pretty interesting. Not a factory EV quite, but an
upfitted one, like the G-vans and such were.

The gas version is going to be sold in the US in 2010.

Having the european company doing the electric upfitting doesn't
bode
well for getting that version in the US though

I was at the Chicago Auto show Media preview today and Ford confrirmed
publicly that the Smith Electric version of the Transit Connect is coming
to the US market for 2010, although only for commercial customers. Ford
declined to cite any numbers. For an article update on the Transit connect

I wonder how strictly they'll define a commercial customer. Do you just
have to own an LLC... or do you have to have a fleet maintenance facility
and such?

I stopped by the Smith factory while passing yesterday. There were
lots of the full size Transit gliders sitting around waiting to get
Zebra batteries and other goodies fitted
