Default Fill level of LA batteries?

Hi all,
I have 4 Group 27 Energizer batteries on my gokart.
To what level do I need to fill the cells?
If I look in to an open cell there are slots up
the side of the fill tube.
Do I fill it just up to the top of these slot?
Thanks, Mike

The fluid in the batteries should completely cover the lead plates inside.

no.... you want to leave a little room at the top of the slot so that any gassing during the charge cycle can make it to the vent easily. Use only distilled water, and fill at least 1/4" above plates.

You MIGHT consider investing in a single-point watering system (like flow-rite), which has special caps with floats inside that regulate the water level really well and make filling very quick and easy. The time savings made it worthwhile for me....

OR, on a go-cart you might want to consider AGMs next time around as you would reduce risk of acid spilling on you while driving, and the AGMs are a little 'peppier' due to lower internal resistance than FLA.
