Hi All, We are just getting going on DIY. My main goal here is to help with tech support and fill in the gaps in the information/disinformation out there. I am not here to debate or criticize, just help out when asked. If I see a post where information is just wrong, I will probably attempt to correct it, though some out there have pretty strong views. Thanks, Brian

Nice to see you. A lot of us are waiting on beefier AC controllers and motors.

Hey Guys! Thanks for joining!

A question came up today about Dual Motors with Dual controllers (one per motor). I know inside the 1238's there's a "dual drive" menu item. How hard is it to put two motors together, kind of like you have in the Jetta?

What is required?

Hey Travis,

About time huh! The dual motor design like is in the Jetta is tricky to build, not saying impossible obviously since we have done it. The main thing is we would need to make some tooling to line up the stators in the frame. Since the air gap between the rotor and stator is less than .010", and the thing is so long, this is a challenge. We would just need someone to step up and order 50 or more, then we could make it available to the masses. You do have to run two controllers, it doesn't do much good to split the current between the 2 stators.

Thanks HPEVS (Not sure if it's Brian, or Sean as shown in the signature),

What about coupling them with a belt, like this:

How hard is it to get the torque to match between the two, or do you even need to do that?

It's Brian, I keep trying to change the signature. You could belt drive them together like Roger did in his Fiero. He had some issues at one time with the mounts flexing and the belt slipping. Since we run torque control mode, there is no issue with synchronization, they will share the load evenly.

Somanywelps: What are you looking for when you say beefier? 144 volt is coming soon, but the power level is virtually the same as the AC50 is now running on 115 volts. We are still developing the "AC75", it's a torque moster, but drops off earlier in the RPM range compared to the AC50. End result, almost the same HP, runs cooler though.

Do you recommend an Opto-Isolator to get the Tach to work on the 1238's pin 2?

Yes, we are getting ready to mass produce these. Should be ready to go in a couple weeks.
