Question Possible donor car

I found the following:

1979 Peugeot Estate

It has a 70hp Diesel with a 4 speed manual transmission. My thoughts are that with the diesel it has a good suspension, the estate gives it plenty of room to place batteries, and the manual transmission, coupled with the deisel means the overall gearing should be prime..

The donor cost is $200.00 and may be negotiable...

Thoughts?

Mark

That looks like it would be a heavy car! But Chet in our club has an Escort Station Wagon EV. So it can be done but I don't remember what performance he gets out of his car. The typical donor car is a compact 2 or 4 door car, light weight and typically aerodynamic.

At least with that donor, you could still retain all the passenger capacity.

I love wagons. And then the legendary 504. I've owned a 504 sedan some years back. Really great car. Think Mercedes, but with the smoothest suspension you've ever seen. Never owned the wagon, but a co worker had one and he could put a truck load of stuff in it, literally.

On the picture, that is a 504 euro model. Where are you? If it is around Dallas, would have to be a US model with euro headlamps and really early bumpers. Kurb weight for euro model was around 1200Kg. 1800Kg GVWR. Can carry 8 adults. Unless it is the utility version, only 5 adults.

That is not too heavy at all. US models are heavier due to endless gadgets, but they can be made lighter.

For $200 it has to be in bad shape, normally they fetch $500 and end up in africa for parts. Did you end up going for it?

There was also a coupe and convertible, all Pininfarina designed. And the sedan with the very interesting looking trunk. Latin america also got a pickup version.

Of course, if you want to have it serviced, Dallas has the best french car mechanic around, Garage Courtier. They've been around since 1976.
