Who or what is Rational?
To all,
I don't post much here in Chit Chat. I spend most of my forum time in Technical. Recently there is a new member using the name Rational who has been posting irrelevant and annoying posts seemingly in threads in which I participate. He recently posted this:

If you'd like I can reference the post in the Chit-Chat room and do my philosophy stuff over there. I'm only a lieutenant so it's your call.

To which I replied:

And in another thread he posted this:

And, conversely, by now you have a pretty good idea of who and what I am.

But I am at a loss to who or what he is And since he said he was headed over here to Chit Chat I thought I'd give him a place
Here is a link to a thread he started which is locked:

Re: Who or what is Rational?
Hi Major,
I'm new here but try to contribute thoughts and ideas (which are sometimes good and sometimes not!) as much as I ask for advice or ideas. This seems to work out and I very much enjoy the distraction this gives.
What Rational is on? Who knows. I saw that strange original post where he (?) seems to be ranting at someone or something. Very strange.
I wonder if an administrator would take a look at his profile and see if he's making any contribution in the context of what we're trying to achieve here?
There's no accounting for folk, as we say over here in the UK!!!!

Re: Who or what is Rational?
I've been curious about this "Rational" character as well. The language and pseudoscience remind me a lot of "Safe", a long-time forum member on Endless Sphere who made a nuisance of himself by posting a load of half-baked theories as fact.
He was mostly harmless except for the fact that newcomers were often taken in by him, so a lot of time was wasted by others debunking his ideas.

Re: Who or what is Rational?
I'll chime in here.... hadly ever post in chit chat, but I have to admit I have taken a real dislike to Rational's posts just because of the signal-to-noise ratio is all noise as far as I can tell with no real contributions beyond verbose disjointed pseudo-academic ramblings only loosely connected to OP threads, or setting off in odd directions on his own.
My concern is that I find most of the garbage misleading, or at the very least obfuscating the purpose of this forum..... to help people build EVs!
I have no problem with ignorance, and am willing to pitch in whatever I've learned along the way. I've got plenty to learn myself, and value the input from others who have actually DONE things rather than look them up on wikipedia. The pseudo-science attitude to attempt to come off as an expert in something is just kinda pathetic.
but.... what re we gonna DO? you can't say he's doing anything BAD, or vulgar... just annoying words of 'expert' opinion from a guy who apparently has not built an EV and doesn't intend to do anything but ask for numbers to throw into meaningless excell spreadsheets.

Re: Who or what is Rational?
I don't believe Major is a real major, or MalcolmB really MalcolmB, and that's what I think of most users. Rational fits perfectly in this theory.

Re: Who or what is Rational?
I see no proof that you are really an iti_uk. And I'm certainly no John the baptist, where my name is derived from. No, the theory is still standing strong.

he's mostly harmless, but it does concern me that some of the new guys might take some of his advice and hurt themselves...

As a relative "new guy" let me offer some reassurance here. If you don’t have a lot of experience in a given area coming to a forum such as this can offer a wealth of information; however, it can also be a bit of a crap shoot. That being said I can say fairly definitively say that it's not hard (even for someone new to Electric Vehicles) to separate which posters know what they're talking about and which ones don't.
Now what is challenging to someone new to EV conversion is when reputable, senior posters strongly disagree with each other on seemingly important operational and safety features. But that's a discussion for another post
