When you say that the motor is heavy, what is your reference point? Most guys on this list use VRLA batts that weigh into the thousand lb. plus area. This motor will weigh about 100lbs more than your average motor used in a conversion, but for that 100 lbs you will be getting excellent performance. I have other motors that are not as large but have simliar and still very usable specs. I feel like this is a VERY good option when you consider what you get for the money.

A lot more attractive when you consider the peak power is 127.5kW - that's over 1kW/kg (available from 3000 to 8000 RPM). Automotive engines are specified in peak power - why isn't this the same for EV? I guess it's a hang over from industrial use of electric motors where continuous rating is more important.

Thank you for pointing that out Samborambo. Like i said, this is THE BEST DEAL i have found, in my extensice search of motors, on the internet. As I see it, the only way you are going to beat it is to find a used version. If this motor is too expensive i have smaller sizes that are still very good choies for VE's. If that is not doable, look into used induction servo motors as a cheap viable option.

That seems like a better motor than the AC55 which is close to the same price: http://www.electroauto.com/catalog/acmotors.shtml
The AC55 is $3495 + $200 shipping, and the matching controller is $3495 + $30 shipping for a total package of $7220.
The question is what controller does it use and what does that cost?
I also could not find the specific motor on the site you linked.

When comparing it to the output per kg of the metric mind motors it is heavier. The closest one at 40kw continuous weighs only 53 kgs though peak torque is lower, and the closest peak torque at 430 peak, (67kw continuous), weighs 90kg. However, if it is that much cheaper as you say then it certainly isn't so much heavier that it would be a problem. Compare it to a DC Warp11 and it's about the same weight.

I have a controller in the works. It will not be ready for some time, but i thought i would offer the motor to those who may be making their own controllers.
