You're wrong there. I am also a "scrounger" - built my chopper for $25. That includes a lot of trading and wheeling and dealing and gifts of "junk" from friends. But total cash outlay to date remains at $25. I love to read about low budget projects.

I'm busy and tired. Been working on 4 hours sleep a night for about a month solid with work, study and theatre commitments. I need a holiday but being a teacher I don't get any when I can afford it.
Also getting stressed out with agency teaching some awful teenage learners who not only don't want to learn but mostly do everything they can to stop me teaching the one or two in the class who are trying.

Not getting any time on the car either with the rain and lack of spare funds.

I have managed to get hold of a pair of 24v geared motors, a bit bigger then the usual wheel chair type that I want to use for a small scale project. I also have tabs on a 3hp golf buggy motor and a Lada Niva transfer box that I am going to use for a bigger non road going project.

This is the reason I stopped going to school to become a teacher. I went into xray instead and I still get to teach new students at work. Ones who want to learn. I hated the idea of becoming a baby sitter. I wanted to teach science to Jr High and High Schoolers.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
My regular teaching is in furniture studies and the students are usually mature and are funding their learning from their own pockets. That makes them very good students and makes for easy teaching.

Every now and again I get agency work in carpentry and joinery and it is often the classs that the regular teachers at the college don't want. It doesn't even pay that well.

Hi, just been driving the wheels off my Yugo.

I put the last MK GEL battery in a while back and really like them.

I was running it in 3rd gear most all of the time.

Now I run it up to 40 and shift to 4th and it seems to pull better using lower rpms.

The draw down on the pack is the same either way which surprised me.

I tried 5th, but that is too tall a gear for it. It is ok on flat roads and will hit 56mph.

Mostly I just putt along @40-45 as I enjoy the ride. It is over too soon as it is.

The electric oil heater really works well also. I plan to drive it as long as the snow isn't deep, no matter how cold it gets.

Hey Coley, was wondering if you were still around.

So I take it you are not having controller problems anymore?

Not bad to get over 50 MPH for the build cost you have there.

yep, I am really satisfied with the way the car performs.

The new controller is even cool to the touch after a cold morning run.

Just addding miles and miles to it and enjoying the ride....

Nice.

I've probably put only 1 kilometer on my car so far Just drove down a few blocks and came back right away since I still have no 12V systems (or insurance).

It was so nice. Smooth, floaty ride, quiet and shifting is as fast as you can move the lever even with no clutch.

I may have to tweak my controller a bit though.

Thumbs up Re: Silence

I just spent the last hour or so checking on your build (26.4 KBS dialup).

Wow, are you ever doing a great job on your conversion.

GM could take lessons from you and your Dad.

I bet your grin is huge!!!!!

Congrats

Thanks,

Honestly I was in shock. After just moving it around the yard a couple times under its own power (and realizing that it DOES have some power), I drove back into the shop and left it there for a couple hours. I kid you not, my hand was still shaky that evening.

First time in my life ever driving an electric car also happened to be the one we built right here, so it was a bit of a double whammy for me. But there was a grin or two in there somewhere.

I'm getting itchy to steal another quick run on the road, but its raining and I still have exposed elelctrical connections under the hood, oh and no working wiper blades
