Default 2005 dodge stratus EV conversion?

yes, i want to convert my 05' dodge stratus SXT to a EV, I need to get atleast 65miles per charge, and with a top speed of 70mph. Is this conversion possible with 10k budget? Here's some specs of the car it has a curb weight of 3,182lbs and a drag coefficient of .325. Now i think with a few body modifications and taking out the engine, gas tank, exhuast etc. i think i could get those numbers down even more. Now im thinking of useing a warp motor and lead acid batterys. If you guys could give me a list of what parts i would need for this conversion with my range and top speed requirments. Here's the website for my cars full specs if any of you guys need it. http://www.new-cars.com/2005/dodge/d...dan-specs.html

thanks
bryan

if you can find used or discounted parts you may be able to do it for 10k.hopefully your car has a standard transmission.that would help with the range.your range and speed requirements will be hard to accomplish on that budget also.i can't find any payload capacities on the car either so i don't know how much weight you can haul around.you should have the GVWR sticker on the door? keep researching and i am sure you will find your answers.

No actually i have an automatic transmission, that wouldn't work? maybe i could find a manual transmission from a wrecked stratus only i don't think the manual transmissions are very popular on a 4dr sedan. Even if i did have one how would i attach the shaft of the electric motor to the transmission would i need to make a custom bell housing? Ive been a machinist for 10 years now so i could make one at the machine shop i work at if i had to or does anybody sell kits or something? Or what about direct drive can it be done on a FWD? Also what motor do you guys suggest for a top speed of at least 70mph and a decent acceleration. I was thinking of using Optima Yellow Top D31T batteries there 12V,75AH, at 59.8lbs and $230 bucks a pop ,let me know if you can think of any batteries that are just as good for a cheaper price. Also what kind of controller and converters should i use. I found this controller and seems pretty good from what Ive read it has all sorts of feature's more than the Curtis ones iv heard about. Its a "Kelly 24-144V 500A Programmable With Regen Controller" here's the site. http://www.cloudelectric.com/inc/sdetail/1827.

let me know what you guys think, and thanks alot for the help.

thanks'
bryan

you can machine whatever you want (adapter plate and shaft coupler) to connect to the transmission if you are a machinist.(i wish i was!) however, you are going to need lots more than 75ah to acheive your range.somewhere between 300 to 400 amp hours i would guess.with lead batteries your car won't take that kind of weight.i would suggest selling the stratus and buy a small truck.you may be able to increase your conversion budget by "trading down" to an older truck(older than your stratus).i hope i am helping a little here.

Definitly, more than 95 AH batteries.

Preferably 200 AH batteries.

Thanks guy's, i really apreciate the help. But the only batteries that i can find that rated between 100ah to 200ah are lithium Ion batteries wich are perfect for my EV becuase of the wight and size reduction but they are way to exspensive!!! But i think i found a pretty good battery from trojan check the link and let me know if this is a good battery and how may do think i would need? Or are there any other batteries out there that are light enough and pwerfull enough so i can keep my car. Why do Lithium Ion batteries have to be so exspensive!!!
