Default Wiring Suggestion

Hello,

I am looking to wire two Agni 95R (72VDC, 230A continous, 400A Peak) in parallel. The batteries are 6 lead acid wired in series and will be able to produce 800A for 10 seconds.

What size wiring would be required between the batteries for connecting them in series, as well as the wiring for connected each motor controller to the motor?

Is there a general rule for the gauge of wire that is needed for the maximum current that will be seen through that wire?

Thanks for any replies.

Hi Mike,

There has been plenty of prior discussion here about cable sizing. Look for it. And there have been charts posted. You need to size to average, not peak current.

The TTXGP had a bunch of bikes running dual Agnis. Not the one I was with. But those guys appeared to use like AWG#2 to the motors. And they would run hard for a complete charge of 7 to 9 kWh.

Regards,

major

Thanks major,

I'm actually having some difficulty finding charts for higher amperages (over 600A).

I'm trying to find wiring for connected my batteries together which are capable of 800A. Which wiring could I use for this?

What Major is saying, is that you need to select the conductor for your AVERAGE current level, not peak. You won't be pulling 800 amps continuous. 2/0 will do around 300 amps continuous IIRC...depending on temperature. It will probably handle several thousand amps for very short time frames. Think of the rating much like an electric motor.
