EVDL List is on a distinguished road
Default [EVDL] More Battery Analyzer Data

Read the manual and it states it measures and test the voltage, conductance,
resistance and impedance. Does not do a load test like a standard battery
load tester, but determines a load difference that you program in to the
indicated load of the battery.

The conductance of the electrolyte can determine the specific gravity and
increase in resistance of the battery plates indicates the State of Charge
percentages.

Back in the 50's when I was working in a military battery shop we did a
conductance test which was reading the voltage of each 2 volt cell. Some
batteries had external lead links where we can read the voltage of each cell
which was is reading the voltage through the electrolyte.

In other batteries that did not have external links, we read the conductance
of the electrolyte directly. This is done by inserting cadmium plate
electrodes into two adjacent battery cells which you can read the cell
voltage while the charger is on. This is call a Cadmium Test. If the cell
voltage is more than 0.2 volts it is consider bad by sulfating.

I have one of these cell tester that I got from a battery shop which is made
by ValCan #545 which is a little different than the one I use in the battery
shop I work in.

We than charge this battery at a high ampere until the voltage reaches 7.75
volts for a 6 volt battery. If the voltage goes over 7.75 volts, it is
consider bad with too much sulfating. If it's at 7.75 volts or lower and the
voltage starts dropping, then lower the charge ampere for a longer charge
time. Test again by raising back up to 7.75 volts repeat the cycle as
necessary.

The Shumaker battery smart charger I have which is design for deep cycle 6
and 12 volt deep cycle batteries, has this charge cycle built into it. Its
install on board the EV to maintain the deep cycle 12 volt battery. You can
see it cycle from 12.3 up to 15 volts once in a while in the 9 years the
battery has been in the EV. Finally one day it went over 16 volts which the
battery test out bad. I did not replace it yet, as I like to squeeze every
bit of voltage out of it. One day it would not close the main contactor.

Test this 12 volt battery with my standard load test and with the battery
analyzer which both instruments show the battery as bad.

If the battery has no external links, than we replace this battery.
