Default Planning Austin A30/5 Need Advice.

Hi,
I'm currently hypothesizing a electric conversion of an AUSTIN A35, for those of you that don't know the car its a 685kg 34bhp car that looks like this

I'd need the car to drive either a 15 mile round trip or depending on the price difference a 40 mile round trip.

It also needs to be able to reach 45 mph fairly easily,

My dads an electronics technician and i was thinking of building my own controller. I'm also friendly with a number of mechanics and engineers as-well as having some basic knowledge of cars myself.

Here's the catch, I want to do this on the least amount of money possible.
What Kind of money am I looking at for a conversion that meets my needs outlined above.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds good. In addition to the controller, you can do your own charger to save money as well.

Some people have also used old forklift motors to save there. That leaves batteries as the only major expense, but not terrible for a short range.

I think you could it all with 15 mile range for $4-5K, or for 40 miles $7-8K.

Hi; good choiceof car, I replaced the motor in my Aus version with a Morris 1000cc and it reached 40mph like lightning and then ran out of puff. This is good for a conversion as from memory the diff ratio was around 4.88:1. The gearboxes were not strong and synchro's wore out quickly. That might be a good reason to keep the clutch. Another disadvantage is the annoyingly small bonnet making it hard to bend down into the engine bay.
The weight is a big advantage. Good luck
