I am new to the world of ev vehicles. I was awoken to this by my friends dads new Tesla roadster. It was amazing. I want to convert a fox body mustang. Links to items to buy or instructions straight up are GREAT. I know a little about electricity. I don't have the biggest pockets. THANKS!!!!!!!

You will need to install sub-frame connectors, the factory convertible flooring stiffener plates and torque box reinforcements to allow it to deal with the added stresses and weight. The FOX floor pan is famous for cracking.

You can do front and rear coil/over spring conversions to give you an adjustable suspension at all 4 corners, for both ride height and easy spring rate changes.

The 8.8 rear axle is an excellent unit for this conversion. It is plenty rugged and has a good gear ratio selection if needed. It can be changed over to 5 lug wheels easily too.

The brakes are pretty good size for this weight of car.

Would also do tube k member, shave as much weight as you can. I too was looking at doing a fox drag car after I'm done with my jeep.

thanks for your help mizplix. What parts for the ev swap do i need. Like motor, controller etc.. I don't know the terms so you might have to fill me in a little. I have a budget of 5 grand.

LOL! Before you guys start suggesting mods perhaps point the person towards some educational material to read up on first. Oh and a great investment broker that will turn that five grand into some serious capital to get the job done because his small budget won't do the trick.

just to let everyone know. I have all 144v lead batteries. Im 16 and my shop instructor is paying for most of the equipment. The welding of anything is free to me. He has many connections and would love to help me, but doesnt know what to get. Thanks for any help

OK, you will want to go with a DC motor and controller as they are lower in cost. Like an advance9 or a warp 9. I prefer to keep the clutch on a manual transmission. They shift easier. Adapters are available for this conversion.

A Curtis controller is cheaper, but I would try a Soliton Jr. controller. Keep the AC condenser for a heat exchanger if you are going to use a water cooled controller.

Your challenge would be placing all of those batteries somewhere. A fox chassis is not too large.

Remove the trunk floor completely and install the bulk of them there.

If you dont need a back seat, install 4 batteries there.

Place the rest up front with the 12volt aux. battery.

Get a 12VDC vacuum pump for the brakes. Keep the power brakes.

Get a manual steering rack or loop the hoses.

Get heavy rated tires and run up to 80 PSI in them.

Have lots of friends....LOL

Study pictures on this site. Try for a neat conversion, you will be happier than a sloppy/thrown togather one.
