Default Smart Fortwo Electric

Hi My name is Jake and I'm from the UK.

I currently drive a Smart fortwo and am interested in making it an electric car. Smart have made an electric one, however it isn't for sale at the moment and won't be for some time.

From looking into it, the car has a range of 60 or 70 miles and a top speed of 60 or 70mph.

I'd like to convert mine, if possible to a higher spec so when it is released I feel mine has something extra. In terms of space, it has a 700cc turbo engine giving 61bhp and it has quiet a small engine compartment. In the rear though above this there is plently of space vertically however it would be above the engine lid where the motor would sit so would need to be modified to be removable.

Is this possible? Also I'm really new to this, is there any good starting material to read and where do I find this

Also the Smart has a few safety features like ABS, ESP, Hill start (Where it holds the brakes on for 0.7 of a second after you take your foot off the brake to stop you rolling back.) Would these be retained and would it be hard to do?

It also has a manual box but with an automated clutch, so it's just two pedals. The electric however that they have made is simply forward and reverse. Would the original gears stay or would it be possible to make it purely one gear for forward and would this affect performance much.

Thanks in advance

Jake
