Default newbie question on pack grounding

I know this is probably an obvious question, but is the battery pack in an EV grounded too? In all teh wiring diagrams I see a heavy cable running from the motor or controller back to the battery pack to handle the bulk current, but should there also be a smaller wire grounding the negative side of the pack to the chassis? That way negative side can't have a large potential with respect ot the chassis and pose another shock hazard. Also, it occurs to me that the potential from the positive side of the pack to the chassis could possibly get high enough to come close to insulation limits on a high voltage pack. Thanks for the info.
