I want to know how a spammer, in this particular instance user "car_diagnostics" (maybe just "car diagnostics"... it's already fading from my memory in a mere few seconds.. ) with 3 spammy posts can get the little green "on a distinguished road" square. It makes my single green square feel so... dirty.

I think you get a green square by default.

So, you have to work at it NOT to have a good rep?

Another feature dreamed up in bizzarro-world...

On other forums the user name is also shown next to the rep point,
but here that info is hidden except from administrators.

That might not be a bad thing, I saw it turn into a love fest at another
forum.

Not saying I agree or disagree. But what does this have to do with the current discussion of reputation and green squares?

Lightbulb Re: Forum Poster Reputations

I figured out that the green/red square depends on the positive/negative reputation points which you can bestow by clicking on the "balance scales" icon. I noticed that mine had changed to "indeterminate" and another member had a red square so I gave him a boost, for thanking me.

It's not hard for a spammer to get good rep. They have multiple accounts to bump themselves with.

This thread is over two years old, based on the most recent post which is not today.

Isn't there some way to automatically close a thread to prevent thread resurrection?

Well, if you will post on it then it will never go away!

Often old threads are still relevant and can be added to and so auto closing them would not be good.
