Glaciers in many places take years to advance after snowfall and it would not surprise me that glacial retreat was slowed during the 11 year solar minimum we just passed through and that with solar radiation on the increase again, Himalayan glacial retreat will be back to normal.
In my last holidays I visited the Franz Joesph Glacier and shown below is the evidence of typical glacial retreat we are experiencing in NZ
