Wouldn't it have been more effective to fund development of something a bit
more goal-oriented, such as a "quiet motor that doesn't use rare earth
materials"? I might be jumping to conclusions, but it seems to me that such
a restricted project fairly reeks of meddling by science-ignorant
politicians.
