Default [EVDL] Zilla fusing

Can I fuse the start switch (momentary microswitch in my case) and the key
input (+12v from original coilpack spuply) seperatly with their own 4 amp
fuses ?

In effect using 3 fuses, one for the permenent connection to +12v also.

Thanks
Dave

Default Re: [EVDL] Zilla fusing

Yes you can fuse the Start and On circuit to the Zilla with a 4 amp fuse.

I have every single circuit in the EV fuse separately at the rated
specification load that is between the switches and the load. Then I use
self resetting circuit breakers that clip into the existing auto fuse
holders like the standard fuse does that feed the start and ignition on
switches which are in the 20 amp range.

You can get these self resetting circuit breakers that replaces the standard
auto fuse from NAPA.

In my case, I am using large industrial contactors where if I connected the
main contactor with a 12 volt coil, the 12 volt coil draws about 6 amps. All
my contactors in my EV have line voltage coils, meaning the coil voltage is
the same as the battery pack voltage which only draws 0.5 amps.

Therefore, I still use a 4 amp fuse at 12 volts to the Zilla that turns on a
10 amp relay with 250 volt rated contacts which uses a 12 vdc coil which
turns on the main contactors with 180 vdc coils which is fuse at 1 amp.

These industrial EV contactors have a range from the maximum charge voltage
of the battery to the low voltage cutoff range that would be lower than what
you set your Zilla at.

These contactor circuits now have been working since 1976 with no faults.
