Default NIMH from hybrid bus

Thoughts on this Nimh pack? Worth the risk?

At first I thought it looked great but lets face it, 288V times 8.5Ah is not a massive amount of storage. Around 2.5Kwh. Enough for a bike but only a short range small car. It's your choice.

This appears to be $394/kW-Hr at the $1000 price. The Lithium packs I found at Turnigy are $8 for 11V 2.2 A-H or $327/kW-Hr, and will have all the advantages of new Lithium cells:

A 288V e-bike would be pretty awesome...

The voltage would be good, but that 200lb NiMH pack would slow it down and probably be difficult to mount. Plus the water cooling...

30 of the Lithium packs would be 330V for about $240 and only 5.6 kG (12 lb). Only 732 W-Hr but good for 20C means it could give you 15kW or 20HP for a quick sprint. And for about $1000 you'd have 2.8 kW-Hr and 80 HP peak!

With 250-350V you can use a three phase induction motor. They have smart motor control modules good for 5 HP and cost about $50 (but you have to add the microcontroller and interface):

Or you could connect in series/parallel and use one of these BLDCs which will give 3.6 HP:

Hey I saw that same ebay listing and was thinkin maybe .....I would buy/bid..............however the energy storage of Nimh , the bulk of that unit has drawbacks compared to LifePo4........plus Nimh on ebay are overpriced and aged technology...........

I got a message from the seller that he would take $500 plus shipping for a used pack or $1000 for an unused pack. Wonder if it would be worth trying to split a pack with someone; 144V and $250 each.

since it's NiMH, you'd have to have an appropriate charger as well, but if you count the 3 contactors as $150 off the sale price, you might be on to a pretty good deal
