Default [EVDL] bicycle racing

Watching some olympic bicycle racing, I am struck by the apparent use
of petroleum fueled chase and lead vehicles. It seems to me that
bicycles and bicycle racing are a celebration of non-petroleum fueled
transportation. Anyone know why EVs are not used? Or do I misperceive
the situation?

For the cycling there is probably a lack of suitable and affordable vehicles that can maintain and average 30-40mph over 150+miles of race (and get to and from the course) that can carry a full support team and spares.

There is also little opportunity to drive very economically as the cars have to race and down the convoy to get to their team when needed. Also there can be a lot of mountainous routes which would sap energy with little opportunity for regen going back down.

Perhaps they are trying to poison the competitors with carbon-monoxide from
the exhaust, or training with an electric escort may be an illegal
advantage as they would have less exposure to exhaust fumes while training.

Or maybe it's that the Tour de France has an average distance of about 95
miles per day over very hilly terrain and they have 'range anxiety'/refuel
concerns about electric cars running out of batteries or not having access
to high power charging at all the stage stops.

Current off-the-shelf EVs from big manufacturers don't have enough safety
margin on their range for that duty.

Yes, a conversion could be designed with plenty of range, but I don't see
the PR people doing things that way. If the Leaf or a similar vehicle had
150 mile range, I think it'd be much more likely to happen.
