Today, thinking what the heck, I'll see if the motorheads at the annual HotRod/RatRod charity show, would let me show my EV.

After the "Deer in the Headlights" look surpassed when I said it's an Electric Car, all was ok, an I put it on display. The public response for the most part was amazing. I had business cards with the www.texomaev.com website on them, and I hope at least those who took cards will go home and think about an EV in their lives.

Folks, if you have an EV, take it out for events of any sort, print up some of the free flyers from the National Electric Auto Association, and hand them out. Lets get our EV's out in the public, and get people to thinking about them when they are filling up their cars by next summers, $4+ per gallon of gasoline.

Yep, I've displayed my Rabbit and Pusher combo at a number of car shows, and the reception has always been enthusiastic. Most car shows will allow you to show your car for little more than the regular patron entry fee. If you want to have your car judged, that usually costs more.

Be warned, if you do this and stay with the car to talk with the public, you will need throat lozenges by the end of the day. I've talked myself hoarse each time I've exhibited at car shows, energy fairs, EV appreciation days, and Earth Day observances.

Be sure to type up some informational pages and post them where they can be read by the attendees. Many people will be able to read up on your car while you are away resting your voice or talking to a small crowd of other people. I've found that some people are reluctant to approach me until they have read some of the literature describing the car.

Also have "business cards" with your name/email/web site printed on them. I see several hundred of these go out each day the car is shown.

It also doesn't hurt to put out a "donations" bowl if the organizers will allow it. Good way to collect some coffee money!

Hi,
I am working on a VW beetle conversion. I am using a Jack and Heintz G29
I would like to stay at 48 Volts so I can use regen.
Is anyone else using the "Wilderness EV" kit at 48 volts?
What are you getting for range and speed?

I am using a J29 generator as the motor in my Electric Eclipse, but I'm running the armature at 78vdc, and the field at 24vdc. I get some regen through the freewheeling diodes in the controller, but I doubt it's much.

At 50% DOD, I can get around 30miles at city street speeds. I don't know yet what the range/performance will be with the additional lithium batteries that now make up my main pack. The battery core temp is in the lower 30F range, and that sort of kills the over typical range, compared to what they do in the summer.

My brother is building a Trike with a J29, back half of a VW, and front forks of a motorcycle. He's going with a 72vdc system with it also, for highway performance.

How has your hybrid pack worked out with folowup tests etc.?

I haven't seen any results posted on it.

there is several other places to stay all around texoma, there are cabins, trailers, motels etc. 4th of july is packed usually so plan ahead, were there every other weekend from april till oct.

New guy interested in learning how to build EV's

I have an old Porsche 914 in the back yard that is just

Sounds like a nice conversion car. Does it have a standard 'manual' transmission?

Yes, it has the 5 speed manual transmission.

What do you think of the new in wheel motor stuff ??
