Sure. If you have difficulty, call the Bureau of Automotive repair. They
will tell you the procedure (they guy who helped me drove an EV before)

I had to take in all my reciepts to the DMV to be sent to sacramento.
Take copies, they were suppose to return them, they did not.
I had to run down to the referee station to get it inspected which
changed the motive code from G to E
I had to have the Highway Patrol say it was safe. There was said
inspector at the premisis.
I had to show proof of insurance. I have geico, it was no problem. I had
AAA and they had no problem. If it is a known model and the DMV accepts
it, The insurace person who tells you that is stupid or lazy, or has an
irrational fear of the unknown, ask to talk to there boss and they will
probably say to just insure it as the base vehicle. When You want
Comprehensive coverage, which the DMV cares less about, you usually want
to go stated value because of the value of the parts.
