I would need to go the entire 80 miles round trip before recharging as my
employer does not yet
offer electrical outlets to the employees to recharge their vehicles. I
have asked this question
and have received no positive response. I would be happy to go 55 mph as
the fastest. I would
be 10 mins happier to drive the 70 mph most everyone else does though.
Economics of the
purchase is another matter. At one point in my life I did pay $38,000 for
a conversion van that gets
about 16 mpg and has rested comfortably in the garage for over 2 years now.
I paid that price for
a comfortable long range trip for my family of 5. I am by myself now.
With a limited income I could
probably come up with 12 - 16K to spend on a vehicle. That factor can only
be determined by the
terms of the deal and how much my banker will trust me. I am not the
brightest bulb in the pack when
it comes to mechanical/electronic work. I can hold my own though. I am
best at manufacturing and
really would like to be a part of a cooperative effort to bring ev's to
America,
a region at a time if necessary.

OK that is one good answer
So 40 mile range one way or would suit your need ? Or you?have?to get back
on one charge as well ? = 80 miles
55 MPH top speed ?
What about the price you are willing to pay ? For the OEM produced vehicle,
MAX ?
Now we will be getting some useful date from REAL PEOPLE, that really WANT
EV !!!
So far all the GM and other research is about what 'average' person does,
but no one has actually yet asked?the willing EV prospective customers that
would be the first in line to get EV, what they NEED. (or WANT or can
afford) !
Thus, a vehicle running 25 mph or even 35mph does me nothing.

Thanks for the nudge Mr Roden,
I drive about 40 miles each way to work. All but about 3/4th's of a mile
is 55mph and above.
I would give my eye teeth for a vehicle that would get me to work and home
without worry
of terminal discharge in warm or cold weather and be affordable. I do not
relish the
thought of paying out over $4 per gallon again and would much rather use
that cash
to buy a vehicle that would do what I need and be a clean run vs. the
toxics coming out
of my present vehicles tail pipes. There are other types of Cooperatives
in this country,
why can't we start a cooperative effort for manufacturing ev's that will
fit the bill for our
largest sector of population to start with? Try to eliminate enough of the
mid-size, mid-range,
vehicles to make the most difference in our country. If the auto corps or
oil guys make it difficult,
we now have the internet to broadcast out those issues. To call attention
to those that want to
get in the way of coomon sense rather than profit.
Thus, a vehicle running 25 mph or even 35mph does me nothing.
Sorry for the soap box,
Thank you,

... and it will never be resolved. We've argued the safety / size issue on
this list dozens of times, and to my knowledge NO ONE has ever changed his
mind. It's all just wasted time and bandwidth. It annoys and even drives
off those who just want to talk about and build EVs.
At least this time it's about EVs, not generic vehicles, thank goodness --
but it's still going nowhere.
Let's see if I can nudge things in a different direction.
I'll twelve-step-out myself and admit that I really don't much care for
working on my own cars any more, especially UNDER them. Crawling around on
a grungy garage floor and bench-pressing motors was OK when I was 35, but
that was (ahem) a while ago.
Thus I'd gladly buy an NEV that I could have serviced for me -- but for the
fact that it just won't work for me, at least not without more hassle than
I
care for. in my area, as in many midwestern cities, it's a royal pain to
get from one side of the city to the other without hopping on a freeway for
a mile or two.
Around here, staying on 35mph or less streets for your errands means
spending time with a map or Mapquest, maybe driving through some rough
neighborhoods, possibly missing a turn and getting off track, while making
the trip.
I admire those who have the patience and dedication to
do this. In spite
of
my strong interest in EVs for over 30 years, though, I'm just not that keen
to. So an EV that can't manage at least 50-55mph for a couple of miles
won't work for me.
How about you? How much of your driving could you really do with an EV
that
was limited to 25mph? Would it be worth spending $8-10K for such a
vehicle?
