Dimitri,
I read your site, very nicely done.
Had a question. The starter battery in my EV (93 Ranger) is down to 11 volts. I think it has 1 dead cell. So I thought I'd replace it, but thought that I don't need a 585CCA battery since I don't do any cranking with it any more. I have normal head lights and tail lights and a small radio.
In your experience, how small could I reduce the battery size to run the normal 12v stuff?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

this is probably not the best forum area for such question. 12V aux batteries have been discussed many times in technical discussions forum area. There is no single answer, all depends on your DC-DC strategy ( always on vs. ignition switched ), 12V loads, etc.

I used small lawn mower battery in my EV , but it died because it wasn't recharging fast enough. If I had DC-DC always on, it would have worked fine. Since then I rewired DC-DC to always on and put in small LiFePO4 12v battery, 4 Headway cells 10AH size.

Hope this helps.
