    <name>Fiero Electro</name>
<other-notes>I had planed on this long before the ICE reached the end of it's useful life, last fall that time came, and the Fiero was parked until I had the finances to begin.

The plan is for this to be a hybrid electric, all batteries in the back with the electric motor and the Honda genset under the front hood. this will keep the balance near to original and the high current cables short.

I bought a GE 9" series with only 8 hours on it, but it had a spun shaft in the armature. Jim at Hi Torque will be doing the work on the armature.

additional notes: I would prefer 144 for battery range, but may cut back so as to not have to advance brush timing so far and loose torque. I'll know more once Jim at Hi Torque has a chance to look over the armature I sent.

update! this will definitely be 144V once I can afford all of the batteries.
update! there here!

update! My armature is back from Jim Husted and it looks great! see photos.

I finished the motor side of my custom DE plate with the exception of the cut outs for the fan exhaust; the transmission side is still in progress. (it just barely fits on the 9" lathe.)

My hack job adjustable voltage EV charger is now functional, but will have many improvements before it is done.

The DE plate is now complete and the motor and transmission are now assembled and ready to fit in the motor cradle.

Update It's in! the motor is installed and my daughter and I drove it around the yard to day on 24v with no controller; she connected jumpers together to complete the circuit while I drove, and she disconnected when we needed to stop.

It has been a while since I have updated this, I have since test drove the Fiero Electro using my home brew DC motor controller I am building; it is functonal, but still a work in progress. details in my controller thread; http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php/blackpanther-sts-home-brew-dc-motor-32083.html</other-notes>

    <name>EMR2</name>
<other-notes>I wanted to do an EV build and the MR2 came along cheap, in great condition and with a dead engine for only &#163;300.

I wanted to use a car that would last the next 10 years and be desirable enough for me to want to be seen in. I didn't want to spend &#163;10k on something that would still look like a scrap yard escapee.

The requirement was to be able to drive the 70 mile round trip to work and back at 70mph almost all the way. No option on that as work and home are on motorway junctions.

With lack of funds I am doing as much as I can with scrounged and salvaged parts. The motor will be a forklift 11" if I can get one and I am using the old AC compressor as the vacuum pump and possibly using an alternator to charge the 12v acc battery.
I will make as many parts as I can but I would also like a really powerful controller as the heart of the build so may save and buy one.
I would like to have the build finished quickly but I would rather it was slow and right then fast and wrong given there is no option on the 'cheap'.

So far I have spent &#163;750 including buying a lathe.</other-notes>

<other-notes>Acceleration isn't complete. It's at about 20 seconds right now but I noticed that the Curtis is adding about a 2 second ramp up on amps each time you let off the accelerator to shift. I need to adjust this and remove the delay and retest.

Top speed is limited by gearing more than anything. The DC motor and controller combo are only pushing 350 amps at top speed because I'm at close to 5,000 rpms in 6th gear.

I still need to finish the heater and install the AC, but otherwise it's done.
Check out my blog for details of the build as I go. http://s2kev.blogspot.com</other-notes>
