      I won't be using this for anything THAT heavy, that's what the shop crane is for

      But an ATV lift is a good idea, seems like a more portable motorcycle lift


      Will this be low enough to fit under my car and support a transmission though..

      Alternatively for that, I could get a transmission brace for my current low profile jack...if needed

      If you have adequate welding and fabrication skills, I think you could design an adapter for the floor jack or, better yet, make your own low-profile scissor lift as the guys at Bad Obsession Motor Sport did.
