I have looked at all of Jay’s posts. Very helpful when I took apart the Curtis. I couldn‘t see any blown components but the board itself looks horrible from previous failures and repairs.

Yeah, if there are no obvious failures like blown MOSFETs probably not an easy fix. The other option you could consider is sending it to FSIP for remanufacturing. Their services run around $500 for such controllers, so not always the cheapest option if you have the flexibility on which controller to use in your project. I used them once for repairing a Sevcon MOS90.

I’m looking for a used DC Motor controller to replace my broken Curtis 1231C-8601.
Just wanting to get the car driving again while I save up for a bigger motor/inverter.

144V nominal.
500A or higher.

I have the same controller and David Mosher at Custom Electronic in Cedar Rapids Iowa
(319) 431-8094 [email protected] did a great job on repairs. Mine was pretty blown up inside. He warranties the work and can upgrade to 1000 amps if needed.... I asked him first before posting....

Ha, this controller already has a sticker on the side for that company. They did a repair to it back around 2012 I think.

I may keep it around for a go-kart since it seemed to work okay at the half power output.
