Of course we don't drive many Tesla but it demonstrates what may be a trend in "Production EV Service and Repair."
You can read it yourself on TeslaMotors.com
here is a real short exerpt from Tesla's Website:
"We are happy to announce that the Tesla Ranger mobile service team is taking the auto service experience to a new level. Our Rangers now make “house calls” anywhere in the United States or Canada, and we will soon roll out the program in all markets where we sell cars. We charge a buck a mile — $1 per roundtrip mile from the nearest Tesla service center, with a minimum charge of $100."

Of course I'm thinking that this is an indication that EV do require "Specialized" service shops, even for the TESLA Recommended: once yearly or every 12,000 miles routine service.

Apparently a Tesla Motors agrees with me that a Service Infrastructure, is needed for the New EVs ,

My own opinion being that the Dealers will cover service during the two to three year Warranted period then Independents will have the opportunity to, "Take Over" on Used EV Service and Repairs.

If you want EV work to be your career, as it is your hobby, (so we know you like doing it!) Between now and 2 or 3 years from now: Get Training, Start an EV shop, Do Conversions, and service them, Build a "Good Reputation" and add Service of Production EV when the market for Used EV "Kicks In."

Also, you can recommend EV Service as a career to a youth you know who likes car work as a hobby and is about ready to step into a lifelong career.

Dogshed,
You are correct, there is already someone doing battery reconditioning.
The one I am thinking of is in NYC. and rebuilds Prius battery packs for hundreds of dollars less than Toyota will do it for, He is using cells from packs out of wrecked Prius as replacements, and his re-done pack last for years. What is to stop me from opening a shop doing exactly the same thing in Detroit, or Atlanta, or Dallas, or even San Francisco?
America, encourages Competition in business. So, we need someone refurbishing Controllers for the "Volt" and "Leaf." Then we'll want all sorts of refurbished, parts for us to use for repairing the "Broken Down" EV s that come our way.
Please read my Website for a wider perspective: WWW.ElectricVehicleTechnicalInstitute.com You may agree with me.
