About two months I was at a junkyard help a friend get a smog pump for his Ford Bronco and I became an accidental EV owner. I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger EV that the junkyard guys had no idea what to do with. Fortunately they were too scared of it to strip it for parts. Turns out a previous owner had converted the original NiMH pack to LTO and added a new charger and a new BMS. I had little idea what I had purchased or where I would go with it. Two months later I've driven it about 100 miles and determined the LTO pack needed replacing. I've now got 106 new CALB100 cells that I'm wiring up.

Vehicle: 2000 Ford Ranger EV
Budget: $500 for vehicle
Charger: ElCon 5kW
BMS: Orion Original
Performance: Original ~75mph
Range: 100 miles
New Pack: 106 of CALB100 LiFePo4
Use: daily driving, commute 24 miles round-trip after pandemic
Reason: needed a project
Background: backyard mechanic, electronics degree, working with RF transmitters, DC power supplies, controls systems for 20+ years.

I knew very little when I first got this vehicle and had a lot to learn about the Ranger EV. I've documented my progress in a series of YouTube videos. I'm pretty clueless in the first few, or maybe the first 11, and I've learned a lot since then.

I hope to have it back on the road by Christmas 2020.
