Air conditioning using block ice

Hi, The idea is to freeze your own ice at home and put it in your EV before starting out on a hot day. The ice cools the coolant running through the existing evaporator coils in the car without the need of a compressor and other complications. All you need is a small circulation pump. I suppose you could also just run the cool water through the coils as it melts. Anyone ever tried this? This basic idea is already being used for other applications.

Yep, used 30-40 pounds of ice an hour at 95° F.
You will need a commercial ice machine.

Take a look at pic 43.

I like that idea. In southern California and other southwestern states they use swamp coolers because of the low humidity. That concept would also work in a car. In fact as a kid I remember my dad using that idea on our car. It was attached to a side window and the wind-stream blew cold air into the car. I never looked inside of the unit but I assume he poured water in it.
Hi guys there was a thread about this earlier

I remember doing some calcs that said it was doable - not a problem here in Southland!
