Hello, All:

I'm a retired Industrial Engineer who is very interested in electric vehicles. I previously owned a Chevy Volt and currently own a Chevy Bolt and a Duffy Electric boat.

My current project is with the Duffy boat --- I'm working on replacing the 48V lead acid battery pack with lithium ion replacements, so I'm collecting a lot of information at this point.

I look forward to learning and contributing however I can.

Lithium metal and water don't like each other, lithium ion cells are made up of lithium alloys which are less volatile in the presence of water. For a boat battery pack I would use LiFePO⁴ or LTO lithium-titanium-oxide cells they have few of the bad attributes of LCO, NMC lithium cobalt cells. Many fire Departments are trained to use massive amounts of water on an EV battery fire to cool the cells.

Many boats are now using LiFePO4 batteries. For my particular use, the Duffy Electric boats are designed for inland lakes or calm rivers, so I'm not too worried about sharks.
