The charge port doesnt connect to the battery directly, though. Wouldn't it go through the charger, in which case you'll get no reading? Perhaps just turning the car on would be a more useful indicator. It should tell you right away if theres a battery fault.

I have tried that. It seems most of the time the screens are the first things taken :(

Perhaps leafspy would help. I dont know if it will turn on the car without the screen, but you can read the canbus with that app. That would let you could check for battery error codes.
