I want to get a 2011/12 Nissan Leaf battery and leave it in it's OEM housing and mount it upside down in my truck so that the smooth bottom will be the bed of my truck or will allow me to mount a false floor above it. Is that possible or do those cells need to live right side up or anything else in that enclosure for that matter?

the deck will go right over the wheel wells which normally protrude into the truck box.

on my 1/2 ton the space between the wheel wells is 4 feet I think the back will just fit in between the wheel wells as it measures 47" wide, and if I flip it upside down and flip it front to back the big hump will drop right behind the cab and sit much lower in the bed, then yes a floor above it to be the bed floor

I would recommend not using a 2011/2012 LEAF pack

having done more homework I totally agree, when I said Leaf Gen 1 in the title I meant 2011-2017 so I am shooting for a 2016 30kWh battery pack now, know of any good sources?

I'm sure you have seen this, but maybe some have not 10 years of Nissan LEAF Battery Evolution (2010-2020) it confirmed your advice to punt on the 2011-12 battery pack, thanks again
