Hey guys!

I am military stationed in Europe. I brought our US spec 2017 Volvo XC90 hybrid with us here to the Deutschland. Trouble is I can't charge the car here. The OEM charge cord (TurboCord - http://www.evsolutions.com/turbocord) doesn't work here and the European cord has a different male connector. The only solution provided by Volvo is to rewire the car.

They only practical way forward I see is to buy a frequency transformer for either the 220v or the 400v outlets and use the US cord; but those are EXPENSIVE!! Thoughts? Suggestions? Looking for any and all ideas!!

The OEM cord lists the required input/output as 120-240v, 12/16amps, 60Hz. So the only issue I see is that European outlets are 50Hz

New to the forum. Thanks for the help!

Does the on board charge support 50hz? If yes, you can buy a EVSE locally and change the cord from TurboCord.

I am in your same boat! Just moved here from TX with the military and can't figure a quick fix for my US spec T8 Xc90 (2017). Contacted local Volvo and got the following:

"The XC90 T8 charging cable for the US version is different than the one for the European model. As we have not had the opportunity to deliver a T8 locally, we do not have an example of the connections. I contacted a colleague who told me to look at this website...

Here you should be able to find the charging cable by contacting them. Attached is a photo of the item that should work.

I understand that currently the cables are out of stock... therefore you should write them and see if they have a suitable substitute or perhaps they can let you know when they may be in stock again."

I think the 50 Hz is throwing things off as the provided cable is smart enough to know the 240V 16A I'm plugging it into is at 50Hz.

Are you trying to charge from a regular wall socket? If you are then you need a EVSE with a J1772 connector on one end and a German 'Schuko' plug on the other... something like this;

If you're trying to charge from a 'charging station' then you need a cable with a J1772 connector on one end and a Type 2 'mennekes' plug on the other... something like this;
