EVTV BMS (which uses original Tesla balancing boards), battery box(es) crafted out of 1/2"PVC, brackets for front and back (it fits!), 5x Tesla modules, cable, fuses, contactors, current-transformer, custom-made bus bars, solid copper custom-made bulkhead connectors, pre-charge, isolation switches, clear-plastic covers, lifting-hooks and more. All expensive stuff. Carefully, lovingly(?) painstakingly made, with engineering accuracy and great attention to detail as a showpiece for an EV-conversion business that got side-tracked, and I'll never get to it now (although I'm still having fun with batteries). J1772 cable, plug, socket, and lots of other useful parts I haven't looked at for 2 years. Save yourself 100s of hours of work and at least 50% of the time for a top-notch conversion with a top-notch pack. All working. Approx. 30,000 miles on modules (18650s). Will provide recent load-test, schematics, etc....

Hi All! So, 96 folks have had a look at this ad. I'm surprised it was that many. Nonetheless, it may be hard to find someone doing a Beetle, I don't know. Any suggestions on where else to post, or changes to the ad?

I'm rather curious why you used 1/2 inch PVC for the battery boxes? Part of the function of a battery box includes structural safety/containment in a crash and fire containment that enables occupants to stop the car and get out if a cell lights off for whatever reason. In a Bug, the box is necessarily in the passenger compartment.
A PVC box can produce HCL when heated above 100C (this includes the period after the fire has been extinguished but the temperature is still above that threshold):
This a one source of firefighter fatalities we read as "smoke inhalation". Some dying AFTER the fire's been put out and their breathing apparatus has been removed for cleanup...
That may be why nobody's jumped on these?
Or it could just be you waiting long enough for someone to have a design-in window.

We thought it was better than metal, as it is non-conductive. I have built metal boxes before, and I'll admit the plastic is just really nice to work with - you can drill- tap threaded holes, cut slots, etc.... I appreciate your comments, however - except the part about why they have not sold
I have not had them for sale until now, as I was in no rush, and wanted to build a device for testing batteries anyway, so I can "guarantee" capacity. Thanks for your input

You cannot use PVC for a battery box to be located inside a passenger compartment. A battery box for a Bug goes inside the passenger cabin.
The builder(s) of the box, the ones who specified the material, would likely be found negligent if someone was injured or killed from the bad choices.
It was one thing when you built it for yourself. Passing it on to a third party, even with disclosure or a waiver, is not a good idea. They can pass it on to another party in silence, and you're still the one who engineered it knowing where it would be located. Foreseeable. Falls on your lap.
I think you should either sell the guts and scrap the PVC box or redo the box in a cabin-safe material.

You made a huge error in materials selection for a component that goes inside a compartment with people in it and need correct it or not pass it on to anyone.

Hi Remy, I misread your couple of sentences. I thought you were contradicting yourself.
I have already thanked you for pointing this out. I will keep this in mind, now and in the future. You are the first person who has expressed such a strong opinion on this choice, which I have also seen used by EV West (although I believe they placed the plastic inside of a metal box). I see the key distinction you are making is inside the passenger compartment - full-points. I will mention this to anyone-else who is interested in purchasing, as I can see that. To be honest, there are so many safety considerations in doing this kind of thing (but luckily few catastrophic failures), it is just not "safe," no matter how you do it. I think it would be best to continue this as a PM (or create your own Thread even) if there is something more you think you have omitted, or if you think I am not listening. I saw one thread you created, stating you were interested in a conversion and were looking for advice. I do not know how that is going, but all the best.

Foreseeable events means negligence. Possibly manslaughter. You cannot prevent someone from reselling these without a warning nor can you prevent a passenger from riding in a negligently designed car. You cannot prevent first responders from breathing hydrochloric acid after the fumes are put out and their ScottPacks are removed, or from getting cancer from the other combustion products PVC puts off.
No, I'm not going to take it to PM. People need to realize the possible consequences of material choices they use in builds, or worse...for resale.
Someone who is pinned in a crash, who needs to buy time for first responders to get them out, or someone who's cruising the Interstate (high battery current) and who has a cell failure needs a couple dozen seconds to stop and get out...kinda hard to do when when a choice of a plastic box was used and you got incapacitated because PVC was easier to drill vs the metal box everybody else uses. Metal boxes buy time. Firewalls buy time. Your targeted use has neither function.
This forum's purpose to to create awareness and knowledge. Only a psychopath would proceed to make money on this vs scrap the use of PVC in a Bug battery box, given someone could get seriously injured or killed because of negligent choices of materials.
It's one thing to not know, but now you do know (which now makes it negligent to pass on as a box used inside a passenger cabin) and you keep coming back with excuses to keep it this way vs "oh shit, didn't know that, we'll go put it all in a metal box".
You also need to warn first responders somehow so they don't get injured/killed doing their jobs, even merely in sweeping up smoldering wreckage. Hard to do when the plastic box is razed.

We call that "Alcantara" now. "Vegan leather". "Musk Koolaide"
The leather in my burnt to a crisp Tesla survived the compartment fire and the flame retardant worked really well with the foam in the seats.
