Component differences between 100D and P100D?

Hey everyone,

I have been looking at the different models of the Tesla Model S recently, more specifically the differences between the 100D and P100D. From what I have read online the power in EV's comes from the batteries not the motor but when looking at Tesla's website the difference between the regular and performance models seems to be dependant on the rear motor.

I understand that the Tesla's are essentially computers with wheels and so the electronics will play a big part but surely there are differences in other components in the car to achieve such a dramatic difference in acceleration, not just the motors?

100D - 4.2 sec (0-60 mph)
P100D - 2.5 sec (0-60 mph)
