i bought an 11" wide, and about 17" long forklift motor, and was wondering with the same battery/car

would one big motor be better or two smaller motor together
because i have a chance to buy 2 identical 6-7" pump motors and possibly couple them together

i was wondering if one big 11" VS 2 6-7" for direct drive?

which one would preform better ( not a racing vehicle this will be in a 4x4 pickup

I'd use the larger 11" over the two smaller ones. Those small ones are pretty small. You could siamese them if you wanted but I'd bet the larger one will do you better. The larger one will have more torque too. I am putting in an 11" Kostov in my Bus.

I would use the 11" motor, easier to maintain. Many problems could arise from using dual motors. One motor, one controller, life gets easier. And with a 4X4 room will be an issue. I am curious your topic is "direct drive" are you using the transfer case?

I'd keep the transmission. You will be much happier. Guaranteed. In a 4x4 I am sure you have plenty of room. You will want the 11" with the 4x4 and maybe even a 13" motor. Torque will be your friend. 144 or more for your pack voltage. You will need some ooomph for the bigger vehicle. My Kostov had been installed into a large Chevy Blazer. Did just fine but with the stock transmission still used. They even used the 4x4 a few times too. Don't expect too much range if you use lead acid batteries.

The drawbacks with direct drive mainly comes at low speeds and are for example:

• More current for the same torque -> More powerful controller needed
• Higher current for the same power -> Less efficient (more losses)
• Less efficiency -> More heat generated
• Lower RPM -> Insufficient cooling
• More heat + Insufficient cooling -> You'll need a blower to avoid that the motor literally melts

So generally, unless you know what you're doing and have very good reasons for going direct drive you're better off keeping the gear box.
