I'm searching for Insurance coverage for my 2008 Subaru Forester AC conversion. I have over $50K into the car and want to insure it for replacement cost. I purchased the Forester new in 2008 and it's been driven as an ICE vehicle for only 700 miles. It has an Azure AC55 motor and matching controller, a Elite Power Systems GBS Lithium pack and BMS, a MM 30 Amp charger, and good quality components throughout. My Farmers agent has been searching around, and the best he's come up with so far is $40K replacement value with $500 deductible for a premium of $2,000 per year. That's quoted by a specialty insurer. I understand some DIY EV owners don't tell their insurer that their vehicle has been converted to EV, but in the case of a fire, accident or other claim, the insurer is likely to deny coverage. Has anyone found a willing, able and affordable insurance company to underwrite their converted EV?
