Been dreaming of a conversion for years and years, come in here for vicarious enjoyment of everyone else's build and to keep up with changes in tech and methods.
Second hand EV batteries have really become a thing since i last seriously looked!

I run a Daihatsu Fourtrak as a personal/farm/work vehicle, it's my only existing vehicle that is eligible for conversion (other one is a chiller van, we have no car). 4/5 seater with load capacity of 500kg (iirc),space under rear seats, load bed and large engine bay for batteries
Would be looking to keep the transmission to retain 2wd/4wd Hi/Lo options and simplify motor hookup.

I used the 100Wh/mile per 1000lb curb weight rule of thumb to guess at 360-400Wh/mile consumption.

Longest journey we do is about 120 mile round trip

Going by the above efficiency guesses, can i put 2x gen 1 leaf 24kWh packs in for 48kWh total and a potential range of 120-133 miles?

Other than that the trickiest thing is that i make a trip with a livestock trailer that is 30 miles away, so i'm also trying to figure out what extra juice i need for towing 700-1000kg behind me. I sometimes tow 1.25-1.5 ton but really locally, so range dropping not a problem

If using a forklift motor, and battery packs are £3.5k/ea, could this conversion be done for <£10k?

Appreciate thoughts

Thanks for that. Yeah I subsequently thought at full weight it might be past 400Wh/m.
I'm going to start collecting 18650s, probably for smaller projects at home and to get myself more familiar with battery tech and charging/bms/etc...
Seems like a piecemeal way of getting into it all
