This is fantastic news for one of the biggest headaches of flying -
TRAINING.
90 minutes is "enough" for instructional flights. In a normal trainer, 90 minutes would burn about 10 gallons of fuel @ $5/gal, or about $35/hr. Aircraft engines have a TBO of around 2,000 hours, and cost around $20k for an overhaul - so there's another $10/hr. Add in oil and you are at $50/hr for "consumables" before you even factor in the ownership/operating cost of the craft itself (including things like avionics).
Overall I would roughly estimate that even current (pun intended) technology could slash aircraft time costs in half for training missions.
Still have that cross-country problem of range, though...
