Interesting short article. I especially liked the description of technological progress as "Punctuated Equilibrium."

I haven't heard much about ceramic batteries - anyone know anything about that?

You can already buy electric motors for powered gliders, allowing you to gain height using electric power and then glide. Apparently it is possible to fly several hundred miles using this method using very little power.
